Regal Cruises
Reviewed September 2000

CruiseReports Value Index = 12.7
CruiseReports Quality Rating = 7.0

Strengths:

Service was excellent • Food quality • Ports of call • Staff was very helpful • Good size and variety at casino • The ship’s staff were the friendliest, most helpful and efficient that I have encountered in ten years of cruising — they all had the uncanny ability to anticipate wants or needs and to respond before a request could be made • Free beer and margaritas from 3-5 p.m. • Cabin steward • Non-stop food • Great pizza, stromboli and icecream at La Trattoria

Weaknesses:

Plumbing • Room size and quality • Boat was noticeably old • Pool was small • Lack of info about options when you weren’t taking a tour • Evening entertainment was second rate • Broken toilet • No Internet access • Ship layout and signage was very confusing • Fitness room was hidden, small and not well-equipped • Not much in the way of sports/activities • Jacuzzi was cold

Other Observations

Didn’t seem like the shore excursions were for children • Ship is old, but well maintained and exceptionally clean • The cuisine was average, but the service in the dining room and buffet were excellent • Customer service at the Purser’s desk was terrible • Entertainment lounge/stage was very small • Good comedian/magician • Lack of onboard shops • Verandas are enclosed • Library was out-dated • Relaxing cruise

Who Should Take This Cruise:

Couples • Seniors • Families • Anyone who prefers a somewhat sedate atmosphere • Economic travelers • Those who aren’t too concerned about great accommodations

Who Should Not:

Young people expecting a variety of activities and entertainment • Party animals • Discriminating traveler who is looking for a top-of-the-line cruise • Small children

Editors Comments:

This review primarily reflects a five-night summer sailing out of the Big Apple up the New England coastline to Canada. The ship is older and doesn’t have the latest or trendiest amenities, but it offers an attractive economical cruise for budget-minded travelers.
